Clam Auger Conversion Kit 2.0

The Clam Auger Conversion kit that came out in 2013 was a revolutionary product that allowed you to essentially convert your hand auger into a power auger using your cordless drill as the source for power.  This was a huge leap in the ice auger industry.  At the time there had been ways to use your drill but none engineered in the way Clam did their 20151010_151515-01conversion kit.  This is old news to most by now but essentially it allowed you to hook your drill up to a kit that had the look and structure of a gas powered auger including handles and a trigger.  Version “1.0” was a success and were sold out all over the country.  In 2014 Clam came out with a version “1.5” of the conversion kit.  They added rubber dipped handles and trigger for better grip.  By this time everyone had to have one of these products.  Word had gotten around and by buying a high quality lithium battery you could drill hundreds of holes before even needing to charge it.  No longer was it necessary to mess with gas and oil or having issues starting the gas auger during very cold days.

One characteristic of the version 1 conversion kit was the need to remove the chuck from your drill in order to attach it to the kit.  This proved to be difficult in some cases and essentially rendered your drill useless if it was to be used again as a proper drill.20151010_155747-01

Then along came version “2.0”

I finally got my hands on the auger plate in 2015.  They made a couple improvements to the kit.  First and foremost was the feature to no longer have to take the chuck off of your drill to use it as an auger.  They also increased the length of the drill mount in order to allow more types of drills to be used with the conversion kit.

Many that fish tournaments or carry their gear on an ATV or snowmobile will also find 20151010_161139-01benefit in the weight reduction of this product.  With the unit fully assembled you can expect to save well over 10 lbs from the gas auger you may be accustomed to
hauling around.

Assembly was extremely easy out of the box.  I took me a very small amount of time to put together.  I chose to use a Dewalt DCD995 20V brushless drill for my drill.  I heard glowing reviews about the quality and power that the drill provided.   For a power source I bought two 5ah which I have been told should allow me to drill hundreds of holes before I need a recharge.

Check out the drill specs at Clam Outdoors.  It retails at the local sporting goods store for around $69.99
