BWCA Trip – June 2015

I organized a trip earlier this Winter for us to head into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area sometime in early June. The trip was planned to primarily locate and fish for lake trout.  We decided to put in the canoes at Snowbank Lake which is east of Ely, MN and head towards Ima Lake.  We pushed hard through multiple lakes and based camped on Ima for 3 days before heading back and camping one lake away from the put in.  The pictures below were some of the nicer fish we caught during the trip.  We had a lot of success catching lake trout in 30-40 ft of water using 30 ft deep diving Rapala Taildancers.  Typically purpledescent worked really well.  I actually enjoyed going up later in the Spring than late Summer.  It was much cooler and more enjoyable.
